Macro location
The cold-storage depot is situated in Krupanj, where the community of the same name also is. Krupanj covers the area of Radjevina that is located between the mountain "Sokolske planine" and Vlasic. It covers a territory of 342 km and administratively it belongs to the Macva district, with its seat in Sabac.
Krupanj is at a 64 km distance from Sabac, 64 km from Valjevo, and 135 km from Novi Sad, 150 km from Belgrade. The Krupanj community is about 10 km from the river Drina and from Krupanj to The Drina there is about 22 km.
The town Krupanj is in a mountain surrounding with top levels up to 900m above sea.
The city area is 265-295 above sea level.
The citizens are mainly into agriculture out of which the most important branch is fruit-growing.
Agriculture, as the most important activity, covers about 20.000 ha of agriculture land, out of which 8.000 ha or 39% are cornfields, 5.000 ha or 24% are meadows and pastures. Further, 2.500 ha or 12% are under fruits and the rest is covered with other agriculture cultures among which the most important are vegetable plants.

Micro location
The business complex of the cold-storage depot "MN" Ltd Loznica business unit "MN" Krupanj is located in Krupanj, in the street Vlade Zecevica number 156. The ground around the cold-storage depot is flat and the location has a direct approach to the main road, which leads to the center of the Krupanj settlement at a 1 km distance. There is a possibility for widening the location for new production programs.

CLIMATIC AND METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS

The climate of Radjevina is temperate continental. The mountains are protecting it from regional air circulations, but bring local air streams too. Krupanj and the area have also temperate continental climate with warm summers and cold winters.
The climate of Radjevina and the micro climate of Krupanj are important economy components for the tourist development of the region and town.
The air here is fresh and clean, because it is enriched by ozone through the streams from the mountains that are rich of beech woods.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OBJECTS AND THE TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS AT THE COLD-STORAGE DEPOT

The business complex of the cold-storage depot in Krupanj has existed at the mentioned location since 1968. The cold-storage depot's capacity had been 1.800 tones of storage room till the year of 2003, afterwards a reconstruction was made and the capacity has been expanded for a new 1.600 tones. As a result the today's capacity of frozen goods storage is 3.400 tones.
During 2003 and 2004 the cold-storage depot was generally renewed and the old equipment has been replaced by a new one. The capacity of quick-freezing is about 120 tones of fresh fruits per day. For the quick-freezing two continual tunnels with a total capacity of about 80 tones per day are used, and on the base of raspberries two classical tunnels with a daily capacity of about 40 tones.
Quick- frozen raspberries and blackberries were the main products till the year of 2007. It is then, when the production of quick-frozen cherry without pits began. In the first year, about 300 tones of fresh cherry were processed at the existing technological equipment. By modernizing the existing technological line, 850 tones have been produced just in the following year of 2008. An expansion of the production for the year of 2009 is planed, that is 1.500 tones of fresh cherry should be processed in 2009. A top quality has been reached by using the new technological line. This has been certified by the buyers from France. The pit's content is lower than 0,01%.This practically means up to 2 pits on 100 kg of product.
The reconstruction of the old heating plant and supply of two more steam boilers that were finished in 2006 enabled putting in operation six new drying plants for drying plums, as well as the possibility of bringing in warm fruit and vegetable processing. The renewed drying plants have been activated, so the drying is indirect and the media for drying is warm air. We get a top quality of dried fruits, because a modern line for fruit to be dried preparation has been installed. During the preparation of plums to be dried, fruits are washed and not applicable fruits for drying are removed. The fruits are calibrated and dried according to their dimensions afterwards.
The prunes are now processed into dried prunes without pits and as they are packed into small consuming packages of 250 g.
In the period to come, dried prunes without pits are going to be used for the production of many delicacy products of highest quality and hygienic good condition.

APPLYING THE QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM

With the reconstruction of the cold-storage depot, finished in 2004, the implementation of the HACCP quality began. The implementation of quality system was finished by issuing a certificate by the certificate organization TÜV Rheinland Inter Cert Budapest in August 2006.
The business management system is being conformed now, to the requests of modern standardized management systems:
1 Quality management system according to the requests of standard IS 9001: 2000
2. Food safety management system according to the requests of standard ISO 22000:2005
3. System of life environment protection management according to the requests of standard ISO 14001:2004
4. Quality and product safety management system according to the requests BRC GLOAL STANDARD FOOD SAFETLY Issue 5
5. Quality and product safety management system according to the requests IFS INTERNATIONAL FOOD STANDARD Version 5
6. HACCP system according to the requests CAC/RCP 1/1969, 4-2003
7. System of quality management and management of primary agriculture products' safety-GLOBAL G.A.P. v 3.0

The analyses of fresh and processed fruits are done at the City Institution for Health Protection in Belgrade. All results so far, of physical-chemical, chemical and microbiological tests have shown that the values that have been found are far under the defined ones, considering all parameters foreseen by the quality regulations.
This unambiguously certifies that it is about food of totally healthy and good condition.

In 2008 a room has been built in which a plant laboratory with an adequate service will be formed. That service will undertake the following main activities:
-controlling the received raw materials to be processed,
-controlling the final product quality,
-issuing product specifications for all products,
-gaining new products,
-maintaining contacts with scientific-investigation institutions with the aim of upgrading the production process and cold-storage depot program.

Within the plant laboratory, a microbiological plant laboratory will be formed too.
The work principles of undertaking the microbiological control are:
-to make samples out of the processing or final products immediately and fast and
-to immediately send the results of analyses, conclusion and intervention measures to the person authorized for production for attention.
Within the plant laboratory packaging and auxiliary materials used in the packing process and the production will be controlled.

PRODUCTION SO FAR

The production so far, means the production at the cold-storage depot since 2003, when the reconstruction and general renewal had started and ended in 2004. Since then capacities in the following scope have been used:
1. In 2003 processed fresh fruits:
-raspberry 800 tones
-blackberry 100 tones
-plumes 300 tones
2. In 2004 processed fresh fruits
: -raspberry 2.000 tones
-cherry 150 tones
-blackberry 250 tones
3. In 2005 processed fresh fruits:
-raspberry 1.500 tones
-blackberry 300 tones
4. In 2006 processed fresh fruits:
-raspberry 1.300 tones
-blackberry 90 tones
5. In 2007 processed fresh fruits:
-raspberry 1.110 tones
-cherry 320 tones
-blackberry 120 tones
-plums 480 tones (for drying)
6. In 2008 processed fresh fruits:
-raspberry 1.400 tones
-cherry 850 tones
-blackberry 370 tones
-plums 900 tones (for drying)

A great development of production has begun in 2003. This was enabled by a general reconstruction and capacity expansion. That has already been noticed next year, in 2004 by the enlargement of processed quantities of raspberry, cherry and blackberry. The second reconstruction and finishing the heating plant in 2007 made it possible to use six existing drying plants and to gain the production of dried prunes.
The latest reconstruction and modernization of the technologic process of cherry processing, finished in 2008, enlarged the processing scope of cherry almost three times.
The complete gained production in the mentioned period has been placed on the international market.
In the period to come a processing of fresh fruit in following scope can be expected:
1. Strawberry 100- 200 tones
2. Cherry 1.000- 1.500 tones
3. Raspberry 1.500- 2.000 tones
4. Blackberry 300- 400 tones
5. Plums 1.000- 1.500 tones

This means a maximal use of processing and storage capacities.
All the production so far was based on fruit buying that is produced in the region of Radjevina and Macva. Often oscillations considering quantity, quality and fruit buying prices have made the cold-storage depot to start a development of its own fruit production.
The production of final products will be improved, because the quality of raw materials will be much better than it has been so far. DIRECTIONS OF DEVELOPMENT

The directions of development will go as follows:
1. Fruit production for processing at own plantations.
2. Upgrading the existing production.
3. Moving to demand and consumption of processed fruits and vegetables in EU and in the world.
4. Technical possibilities for gaining new technologies.
5. Possibilities of connecting with partners abroad.

A long-term program for putting up fruit plants at own plantations and at good cooperators' once has been prepared. That will insure the safety of supply, of needed quantity and an economic price of raw materials for processing. The realization of this program is in process. Strawberry plants of sort "ZENGA" are being put up, as well as plum plantations with sorts for drying.
The actual production program is always analyzed, and all in aim of gaining new products for which technical conditions exist.
Beside raspberry, cherry and blackberry other types of fruit can be frozen too under the existing conditions. Already next year strawberries produced at own plantations will be frozen.
The actual technologic line for prunes drying can be used for drying other products too. This year a test production of dry cherries without pits has been done and the samples have been sent to potential buyers.
Technical possibilities for gaining new processing technologies under existing conditions are also on disposal.
Beside the not used buildings and the possibility of building new ones in the circle of the cold-storage depot, some technologic steam was provided too and together with the existing infrastructure (electric power, water and other), conditions for installing warm processing of fruits and vegetables were also supplied. It can be developed in two directions:
-cans of fruits and vegetables and
-drying fruits and vegetables

Considering the fact that there already are cooling chambers and inner transport at the cold-storage depot, the installing of every new technology would be free of investing into building objects and energetic.
By installing new technologies the existing work craft and maintaining service would be used in a better way.
Now we are exploring the market and consumption has been analyzed, that is the demand for fruit and vegetable products that are processed by warm processing. This will serve to choose the direction of development and installation of new processing technologies.
We also work on connecting with new partners who are interested in building such plants in Serbia, as well as in buying those products by mutual investments.
